Roblox Facial Scan, Australia's Social Media Ban, + Instagram's PG-13

Dec 09, 2025
  1. Last Friday we released the second video of a new five-part online training series we’re producing: Driver’s Training for the Online World.
    • 🎙️ For this series we have 5 planned videos, 4 already scripted, 3 completely done, and 2 released. They’re future-proof principles for making decisions on what technologies we adopt and how we use them.
  2. On Tuesday Roblox started rolling out facial age estimation now required to access chat features in the app.
    • 🎙️ Following new laws across the globe like the UK Online Safety Act, look for age verification in some form coming to more apps in the near future.
  3. New Zealand’s Prime Minister expressed support for legislation to ban anyone under 16 from having a social media account.
    • 🎙️ A year ago Australia passed a similar law that goes into effect December 10, 2025. Yesterday Meta started informing teenage users their accounts will soon be deactivated. Meta has consistently called for age verification at an app store or operating system level instead of implementing it themselves.
  4. Meta has been recently touting Instagram Teen Accounts “guided by PG-13 ratings”.
    • 🎙️ The new protective features are welcomed, but Meta has a disturbing track record on what it considers acceptable content for minors. Don’t miss Let’s Not Forget Peppa Pig. The company promises parents “peace of mind”, but remember their business model still depends on our attention.
  5. Know Curtains is bringing clarity to our online presence. We’re keeping Substack to host our blog, but soon our primary domain will point to a newly designed website to host all of our training series.
    • 🎙️ Once we have a clear transition date, we’ll let everyone know. Nothing will change on Substack except the domain name. If you missed our developmental roadmap, check it out here.

Now we’ve noticed the same helicopter flying overhead every day. The app identified it as the Minnesota State Patrol, and an online search revealed its a new twin-engine addition to the fleet. The n...
